Etudes (trois repas americains)

Photography by Cara Tobe

These three studies form part of an ongoing project in still life photography. In “Trois repas américains”, the work of painters Willem Claeszoon Heda and Jean-Baptiste-Siméon Chardin is drawn upon to restage the principle meals of an American day – their assumed and stereotypical constituents – in a consciously de-familiarized setting.
